10 Actors and Actresses Who Were Suddenly Replaced While Filming Our Favourite TV Shows.
It is hard to imagine, but there are so many actors and actresses who have been replaced while filming and we never noticed that!
10. Penny in "The Big Bang Theory"
It’s hard to imagine any other “Penny” by Leonard’s side in the popular TV series The Big Bang Theory. However, can you imagine Katie, instead of Penny, an aggressive girl next door played by Canadian actress Amanda Walsh? Almost nobody knows, but during the first original pilot of the show that was actually never aired, there was no Penny, but Katie! Kaley Cuoco didn’t get the role of Katie the first time because she was too young, but a year later the casting team called her to audition once again for the new role of Penny and she was definitely a good fit.
9. Carol in "Friends"
Friends is probably the most popular TV show of all time. If you’re a fan, you’ll remember that Anita Barone who first played Ross’ ex-wife Carol Willick was suddenly replaced by another actress. In fact, it was the actor who decided to leave the show because, as she stated, she was looking for a more permanent role and not just a few appearances in random episodes. However, as she is saying it was a decision that she undoubtedly regrets today. The producers replaced her by Jane Sibbett.
8. The Mountain in "Game of Thrones"
Fans first met The Mountain when he was played by Conan Stevens on season one. Probably, for producers it was not really easy to find the man who will literally fill the shoes of The Mountain. They were trying and trying, and trying, but no one fitted. Then, it was recast for season two and Ian Whyte took over. But eventually, Strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson took over once more in season three and has stayed in the role since.
7. Becky Conner in "Roseanne"
Lecy Goranson was cast as the original Becky, but she quit the show to attend Vassar College and Sarah Chalke came in to replace her. The show was expected to end with its eighth season, so Goranson returned with Chalke and her alternating the character as a running gag. “At the time, I wanted normalcy. I wanted to be around my peers. I wanted to be in an intellectual environment… I would have, like, five English papers due on Monday, and they’d want me to fly to Disney World and shoot a show there over the weekend, and I said, ‘I just can’t feasibly do this,'” Lecy previously told HuffPost Live of her decision to exit the series. Chalke then continued as the character during the show's ninth and final season. Goranson reprised her character when "Roseanne" returned for a revival. Chalke returned in a different, brief role. Goranson continues to play her on "The Conners."
6. Reggie in "Riverdale"
It is difficult to imagine another Reggie, isn’t it? I don't know if you remember, but in the Season 1 Reggie Mantle was played by actror Ross Butler. But then Butler had to leave his role on The CW show due to scheduling conflicts with "13 Reasons Why." Melton told that he didn't focus on Butler's portrayal of the character on the first season because he was told not to. "I went in during the audition process, it was like the second audition, and I had a session with Roberto," Melton said. "I watched the show to kind of get a feel of it, and Roberto was like, 'Don't watch anything. Don't watch what Butler did. What you're doing is completely different.' He was steering me to not throw myself off by trying to emulate somebody else."
5. Ann Veal in "Arrested Development"
The original plan for the series was to highlight the intentional blandness of the uber - religious Veal by having her played by a different actress in every appearance, but she was actually only played by two different women: Alessandra Torresani in her first episode and then Mae Whitman for the remaining fifteen episodes in which Ann appears. Her forgettable face was even referenced in her first appearance, when Maeby described her by saying "she barely has a face. You couldn’t pick her out of a lineup of one." Much as we love Whitman, it’s actually a shame that she stuck around-- sixteen different Anns would have been amazing.
4. Aunt Viv in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"
Janet Hubert played the Banks family matriarch for three seasons, then was replaced by Daphne Reid for the remainder of the sitcom’s six-season run. “I can say straight up that Janet Hubert wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show,” Will Smith told a radio station back in 1993. “She said once, ‘I’ve been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.’ To her, I’m the Anti-Christ.” Alfonso Ribeiro shared a similar sentiment during a 2009 stand-up set, saying, “There were days … she would literally go off on people and they got to a point by the time the second season came around where we’re like, ‘This is unacceptable.'”
3. Daario Naharis in “Game Of Thrones”
Daenerys’s lover and advisor Daario Naharis looks very different in his earliest appearances. In season 3, when Naharis first joined the show as a member of the Second Sons, he was played by Ed Skrein. Michiel Huisman then took over for seasons four through six. It was originally reported that scheduling conflicts between Game of Thrones and The Transporter Refuelled were the reason for his departure, but Skrein later blamed "politics," saying that he would have preferred to stay with the role for the long haul. It seems like he’s still sore about being booted from Westeros, although his role in Deadpool (as Ajax) has probably soothed those wounds a little.
While HBO never commented on the change-up, Skrein said in multiple interviews later that there was more to the story than meets the eye. Ahead of the release of his Transporter prequel film, he told EW, “That’s what been reported in the press but it was a lot more political than that. My plan was to stay with Game of Thrones for the long haul. That was always my plan. I would have loved to. It was a wonderful experience, but politics led to us parting ways. And from there I just said, ‘Okay, look forward, be positive. Keep calm and carry on.’ That’s my mentality when things go well, so I stay grounded and not get too overwhelmed by the hype, and it’s my mentality when the plans change.”
2. Brenda in “Beverly Hills, 90210”
If you are a 90s lover, you’ve probably watched Beverly Hills, 90210 more than once. After the fourth season was shot, the character of Brenda was suddenly gone. She was “replaced” with another mean girl by the name of Valerie.
The truth is that the production team desperately wanted to get rid of actress Shannen Doherty who played Brenda, because of her attitude toward the cast and crew. Instead of replacing the actress in the same role, the creators decided to replace Brenda as a whole with Tiffani Thiessen, who played Valerie Malone.
1. Allie in “The Notebook”
It’s hard to imagine a greater on-screen couple than Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook. It seems, though, that the creators had a different choice in mind for the role of Allie Hamilton: Britney Spears.
As Gosling said in an interview, “...but when Adams came to audition everything changed and she got the role immediately.” We would be curious to see Spears’ screen test with Gosling. This is really difficult to imagine both things: Britney Spears in such a romantic and innocent role. And The couple: Britney and Ryan… McAdams didn't even find out about the "Toxic" singer being up for the role until after filming ended. "I'm sure it would have been a totally different movie," she said. "I was very fortunate. I was sort of at the end of the line, and I know they'd sort of done a cross-country trip—Nick and Ryan together—looking for the girl, and I sort of squeaked in there."
